Geocil is the weedmat we use and sell across our own landscape yards. It's a 60gsm spunbonded polypropylene fabric, UV stabilised and hydrophilic treated — which is the technical way of saying it blocks weeds coming up from below while still letting water and air straight through to the soil. Roll it out before you spread bark, mulch or decorative stone.
Specifications
- Material: Spunbonded non-woven polypropylene
- Weight: 60gsm
- Colour: Black
- UV: UV stabilised
- Permeability: Hydrophilic treated — air and water pass through to the soil
- Expected life: 3–5 years depending on application and climate
- Edges: Will not fray when cut
- Warranty: 3-year Cosio warranty
Where to use it
- Under bark, mulch and pebble in garden beds and borders
- Beneath decorative stone, river pebble and scoria
- Under paths, stepping stones and play areas as a separation layer
- Around new plantings, to cut back weeding while plants establish
Laying it
- Clear the area of existing weeds and level the soil.
- Roll the mat out and overlap each run against the next so weeds can't find a gap.
- Pin it down along the edges and overlaps — our galvanised weedmat pins are made for the job.
- Cut a cross where each plant goes, fold the flaps back, and plant through.
- Top with bark, mulch or stone. The manufacturer recommends always covering it — mat left exposed to sunlight won't last its full life.
Choosing a size
The 1m widths suit borders, strips and around-the-house beds. The 2m widths cover open beds and larger areas with fewer joins. Work out your area in square metres and allow extra for overlaps.
| Size | Coverage |
|---|---|
| 1m x 10m | 10 m² |
| 1m x 20m | 20 m² |
| 1m x 50m | 50 m² |
| 2m x 10m | 20 m² |
| 2m x 20m | 40 m² |
| 2m x 50m | 100 m² |
Pair it with: weedmat pins to hold it down, and bark, mulch or decorative stone to finish on top.
