Container Gardening
Containers are a versatile way to grow fresh produce and seasonal colour, making the most of small spaces.
· March is a great time to refresh container plantings after summer, whether for leafy greens, herbs, or flowering annuals. Read our Container Gardening Guide for what varieties to plant.
· Use fresh Daltons Premium Potting Mix for the best drainage and nutrient content.
· Ensure pots have good drainage holes, wet autumn conditions can lead to root rot if excess water can’t escape.
Repotting Houseplants
Houseplants are typically repotted in spring, but autumn is also a safe time as growth slows.
· Inspect your plant for pests or diseases before repotting.
· Choose a pot about one size larger to give roots space to grow, ensure it has drainage holes and use fresh Daltons Premium Houseplant Mix.
· If a plant is root-bound (with roots wrapping tightly around the insides of the pot or out the drainage holes), make shallow cuts (about 20mm deep) into the root ball - new roots will appear from these cuts.
· Water well after repotting to help the plant settle in.
