Improving Drainage for your Lawns

Improving Drainage for your Lawns

What's the best way to improve drainage in your lawns?

As a short-term measure we recommend mulch heavily around your plants with crushed bark or bark chip. Both products absorb considerable amounts of rainfall which would otherwise flow into your already waterlogged soil.

Effective Lawn Drainage

With lawns, this is the time of the year to mark those very wet spots, so in drier months you can install drainage coil to reduce the amount of water pooling in your lawn. Hopefully, there will be some slope to your lawn so there is a natural way of draining excess precipitation. If your lawn is predominately based on clay soils, add sand mixed with Daltons Premium Lawn Soil to raise areas of your lawn that are particularly prone to flooding.

When installing additional drainage in your lawn, ensure there is somewhere for the water to go e.g. not just into other parts of the garden or into a neighbouring property.
