Prepare, Plant, and Thrive
While the heat and dryness can test your plants in February, the reward of ripening fruits and maturing vegetables makes it worthwhile. Use this month to undertake your late-summer and autumn planting, get ready for bulb season, and focus on watering and mulching to keep everything thriving.

What to Harvest
Enjoy a feast of beans (dwarf and runner), beetroot, cabbage, carrots, corn, cucumber, eggplant, lettuce, courgettes, melons, onions, parsnips, peppers, potatoes, pumpkin, silver beet, spinach, tomatoes, and radish.
What to Plant
- When harvesting creates open spaces in your garden, replant with fast-growing crops like beans, lettuce, radish, or spinach to make the most of every inch.
- Get autumn/winter veggies underway like broccoli, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, parsnips, and swedes. Learn when to sow and plant in our Autumn/Winter Planting Guide.
Tips for Planting Success
- Rotate your crops to keep the soil healthy and keep pests and diseases at bay.
- Prepare beds with plenty of fresh compost and Garden Time Vegetable Mix before planting.
- Water regularly, especially during dry spells, to keep plants productive.
Herb Garden
- Water herbs in the early morning to reduce heat stress and prevent wilting.
- Feed every 2–3 weeks with Garden Time Seafeed Plus NPK or Daltons NZ Natural Liquid Seaweed to keep them healthy and full of flavour.
