Houseplant Care
Houseplants can either be a great success or a disaster over hot summer months, depending on the care they receive and if they prefer warmer conditions. Some plants relish the heat, while others may face challenges.
- Spritz regularly: Use warm water to maintain humidity levels around your plants.
- Dust the leaves: Gently clean foliage to help plants photosynthesize effectively and stay healthy.
- Explore new varieties: For inspiration on your next purchase, check out our comprehensive houseplant guide.
Lawn Care
February is about maintenance rather than growth and keeping the length of your lawn a little longer will help it cope with the heat.
- Water at first thing in the morning if restrictions allow, so moisture reaches the roots.
- Plan what lawn renovations you will undertake in autumn lawn - like reseeding or patch repairs. See our Lawn Guide for tips.
Heat-Proof Your Garden
- Feed all plants with Garden Time Seafeed Plus NPK or Daltons NZ Natural Liquid Seaweed to reduce stress and give them a boost.
- Add mulch to garden beds to retain moisture and suppress weeds during the dry conditions. Learn more about mulching – different types, how often and how much.
- Keep checking plants for common summer pests like aphids or whiteflies and disease like powdery mildew and take action early.
